We remember the Edmund Fitzgerald
“This year’s annual Edmund Fitzgerald Memorial Service drew the largest-ever audience for the event, on the 30th anniversary of her loss...over 375 people attending...overflow crowds...participate by closed-circuit television…” (from Shipwreck Journal, Volume 22, No.2/3. Also pictured with the article was, “Lloyd Belcher, 86-year old survivor of the Novadoc, lost in the 1940 Armistice Day storm on Lake Michigan, tolls the bell in memory of John H. McCarthy, Fitzgerald’s First Mate.
Two of the Toronto newspapers also carried articles about the Fitz’s remembrances.
The bell aboard the Keewatin was also rung in honor of all who gave their lives in Great Lakes service. |
