They came by cars, buses, boats, & planes

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in Paul Revere’s Ride wrote, “One, if by land...two, if by sea.” During the summer of 2005, the S.S. Keewatin would have to amend that by saying, “One, if by land (walking, bikes, motorcycles, cars, and buses)...two, if by sea (boats from the nearby marinas)...and three, if by air.” Yes, the Keewatin even had a seaplane fly in to Lake Kalamazoo from Canada to visit!!!

On July 19, 2005 a bus pulled up the driveway to the Keewatin holding fifty-five excited adults from the Port McNicoll, ON area, ready to spend a few hours touring the Keewatin. Port McNicoll is the former homeport of the Keewatin and the other Great Lakes steamships of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Many of these adults or their family members had worked aboard the Keewatin or her sistership, the S.S. Assiniboia.

Paul Cowley and John Tobin arrived by seaplane. Paul had traveled aboard the Kee as a youngster and when touring in 2005, was able to enjoy his “tour of maritime nostalgia.” They stayed aboard Sea Suites, a floating B&B moored near the bow of the Keewatin and thoroughly enjoyed the view of the nearby Keewatin from the top deck hot tub under a star-filled sky. Those standing on the top-deck of the Keewatin were able to see a beautiful fly-over on their departure.

Thousands of other tourists were also able to tour the Keewatin during her 98th season. They enjoyed the variety of tours available, shopping in the Gift Shop, and dinner or lunch at the Red Dock.
